This book covers an important topic. The challenge for a sustainable construction and real estate sector is closely connected with an efficient management of the existing building stock. In the general debate there is much focus on energy and on decreasing energy consumption; see for example EU Directives concerning energy performance of buildings. In order to achieve these goals there is a need to adapt the existing building stock. However, it is not sufficient to just focus on energy when adapting buildings. Consideration needs to be given to many other factors such as economic, social, technical and cultural. Thus, there is a need to involve a number of evaluations and considerations when adapting buildings. This book is an effort to provide a comprehensive view on which considerations and evaluations are necessary in order to efficiently adapt existing buildings. The book is divided into three parts where each part is written by one author.
