It goes without saying that I am most pleased by the festschrift published in Construction Management and Economics (Vol. 24, No. 7, July 2006), the leading journal in its field. I wish to thank Gerard de Valence, the guest editor, all the contributors to the special issue dedicated to my work, many of whom I have worked with for years, and the editor, Will Hughes, with whom I have had the joy of editing the journal for more than a decade. Many thanks, indeed. As it would be rather difficult to address all the festschrift papers apiece, I decided to use this opportunity to sum up that part of my academic career that was covered by it. It spans some 30 years.
