Statistics showed this week that administra-tions in construction are falling. There were, according to the Insolvency Service, only 90 administrations in the last quarter of 2009 in the construction sector, compared with 106 the previous quarter and 111 the quarter before that.rnSomething about those numbers seems to jar, as the general perception seems to be that, for most outside of housebuilding, the recession is just beginning.rnFalse dawns conjured up by statistics can be dangerous, because they can encourage both incumbent and incoming policymakers to think things are better than they are.rnThe troubles faced by Buildstone (see page 8) seem to tell a truer story of what is going on. We reported last week about how demolition contractors had suffered serious falls in turnover, and enquiries in recent months have suggested that the concrete sector is also suffering acute pressure.
