摘要

Starting with a brief overview of the evolution of mobile wireless systems from first generation (1G) to fifth generation (5G), this article presents a summative view of 5G system goals/vision from researchers in academia and industry and a brief discussion of architectures and physical and media access control layer technologies to meet these goals. An overview of cutting-edge consumer applications, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Internet of Vehicles (IoV), facilitated by 5G technologies is also presented. Finally, this article concludes with the trends, future directions, and challenging problems in the research of wireless technologies of 5G and beyond.
