Four Barratt directors spent a total of close on ￡400.000 on the house builder's shares. Mark Clare, chief executive, led from the front by splashing out ￡250,000 on 360,000 Barratt shares, taking his total holding to 530,000. Another pair who followed suit were executive directors Clive Fenton and Steven Boyes, each signing a cheque for ￡50,000, while outgoing finance director Mark Pain exhibited a tad more caution as he parted with ￡45,000 in exchange for 60,000 company shares. December saw three chief executives all in the queue to spend: Clare rubbed shoulders with Derek Muir (head of Hill & Smith) and Ivor Catto (Hyder Consulting's leader). Muir and Catto spent ￡45,000 and ￡40,000 respectively. Thirteen company directors saw an opportunity to spend, shelling out a total of ￡658,000 during December - the qualifying list being made up of deals of ￡10,000 or more.
