Construction workers are being paid as little as ￡3 an hour, according to shock new research from the TUC. Office of National Statistics figures show up to 20,000 builders earn less than the national minimum wage. The minimum wage has risen to the current rate of ￡5.73-an-hour since it was introduced in April 1999. But cases unearthed by the TUC show the minimum is regularly being flouted by contractors.
