Flexographic printing for corrugated has been around as long as narrow-web and wide-web printing-though there are some variables that make flexo printing for corrugated unique. There also is a mindset in corrugated that may have held back the quality improvements that wide-web and narrow-web flexo have realized over the last several years. In many cases in times past, corrugators were boxmakers first-printing was an afterthought just for identification purposes. In other words, the strength and construction of the container sold the container. When "Superstores" and "Mega Marts" came onto the retail scene, a drastic change happened. Now the protective container must also double as the display. This brought about the pressure that exists in today's corrugated market to attain high-quality printing. With this type of pressure, the corrugated printer must now have a better understanding of the printing variables that they are working with and how to control those variables.
