摘要

Most scholarship on Great Jones Street (1973) has considered Don DeLillo's rock star protagonist Bucky Wunderlick as a thwarted artist figure or as a powerless cog in a huge media-industrial machine. This article argues instead that DeLillo locates considerable power in Bucky's audience. While the hysterical crowds that drive Bucky to seclusion seem at first to cause all of the celebrity's troubles, Bucky later tries to engage with his audiences in more positive ways, eventually seeing them as offering more potential solutions than problems.View full textDownload full textKeywordsDon DeLillo, Great Jones Street , celebrity, audienceRelated var addthis_config = { ui_cobrand: "Taylor & Francis Online", services_compact: "citeulike, netvibes, twitter, technorati, delicious, linkedin, facebook, stumbleupon, digg, google, more", pubid: "ra-4dff56cd6bb1830b" }; Add to shortlist Link Permalink http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/00111610903567420
