This issue follows on a recent issue, Volume 11, No. 2, "Maturana Revisited," with further papers devoted to the implications of the work of Humberto Maturana. Cecchi and her co-authors claim that the systemic-historical conceptualization of Natural Drift rescues evolution from a modern reformulation of the Aristotelian notion of final cause, namely the formal cause of genetic determinism. Lyon presents and critiques what she calls Maturana's autopoietic theory of cognition as the only explanation of cognition that is at the same time both biogenic and anthropogenic. Booth explains how the immune system is not about self-nonself discrimination, but rather is concerned with establishment and maintenance of a particular autopoietic individual. Maturana and Poerksen engage in conversation about the nature of reality and the two attitudes of thinking and explaining that people may adopt, namely objectivity and objectivity without parentheses. Bunnell presents a reflective path through the figure that Maturana uses to present these two attitudes.
