This text explores a series of early analogue interactive artworks by Roy Ascott. It seeks to point at the precursors to these work, and to influences in the field that may have contributed to their production. In particular the text seeks to point at the possibility that these works were exploring second-order cybernetic concepts, slightly before second-order cybernetics came to exist. The texts and catalogues Ascott published along with his works, helped to early on illuminate a new field of interactive art.
