In 2001 Louis H. Kauffman and Søren Brier wrote the forward of a double issue of Cybernetics and Human Knowing dedicated to 'Peirce and Spencer-Brown: History and Synergies in Cybersemiotics.' Almost two decades later, we are once again dedicating an issue toSpencer-Brown but in relation to cybernetics, perceptual control theory, second-order observation, and control systems, all topics closely related to the development of the field of cybersemiotics, in which this journal is interested. Due to the intellectual impact that laws of form has hadon authors like Heinz von Foerster, Louis Kauffman, Niklas Luhmann, Humberto Maturana, Francisco Varela, and Søren Brier, this has been a recurrent topic in Cybernetics and Human Knowing since it is a theoretical foundation upon which cybersemiotics is based.
