Construction of Antipodal Complex of Varieties and Hybrids of Barley under Different Plant Growing Conditions

A comparative study of the number of antipodal cells and their karyometric indicators in three varieties of tworow barley and F_1 reciprocal hybrids between these varieties under different plant growing conditions is conducted. It is found that the number of antipodals in the genotypes investigated differs and depends on the growing conditions. The overall volumes of nuclei and nucleoli of all the antipodal cells in the germ sac of the barley under plant growing conditions in the field and in a greenhouse are the same. The characteristic level of functional activity of the antipodal complex is attained by a particular combination of the number of antipodal cells and the volume of these cells. If the plants are grown under artificial conditions (i.e., in a greenhouse), inheritance of the features of "number of antipodals" and "overall volume of nuclei and nucleoli" by the first generation of reciprocal hybrids occurs through the maternal line.
