The National Cheese Institute bestowed its highest honor, the NCI Laureate Award, on Lou Gentine, chairman and CEO of Sargento Foods Inc., Plymouth, Wis. The International Dairy Foods Association presented 2012 Soaring Eagle Awards to Gary Vanic, president and CEO of Great Lakes Cheese Co.; and Dave Fuhrmann, president and CEO of Foremost Farms USA. All three awards were presented on Jan. 17 during the IDFA's 2012 Dairy Forum at La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta, Calif. Also at the awards breakfast, James Durkin, Kraft Foods North America vice president of operations, accepted the Dairy Foods 2011 Processor of the Year award from editor Jim Carper.
