I came to farming after a career in Formula One. I retired after being Grand Prix World Champion at the age of 30, and built up a high tech security firm in the US. I then sold it and took time out to shepherd the racing careers of my sons. Moving to England in 1996 with my wife Clare, I took over the 530-acre Laverstoke Park farm in Hampshire and have made it into a biodynamic and organic farm. I started by trying to make the best tasting, healthiest food for myself and my family, so it grew from that. The range of food produced now covers everything from meat to dairy. When I set up the farm, I had no idea how hard it would be - it took longer than I expected for it to be self-sustaining. I could write a book on the knowledge I have gained.
