Germany's dairy markec was in the news chis year following the strike in late May over the price of milk paid to dairy farmers. However, not all dairies in the country have seen price drops - least of all the organic sector. As organic farming is one of the expanding sectors in Germany, Dairy Industries International paid a visit to three dairies outside of capital city Berlin (see panel). Oberhavel Bauernmarkt is a dairy set within a larger complex that includes a rodeo, flea markets, stalls for products such as sausages and, of course, dairy products. The complex processes around 3,000 litres per day of fresh milk from 440 cows, producing different varieties of cheese as well as quark. It supplies kindergartens with fresh milk in nearby Berlin, and also manufactures 600kg of Indian paneer per week for sale in the Berlin market through a distributor. The company is also selling paneer to Sweden, and has trialled the product in London, according to dairy manager Mr Schneider.
