One of Belgium's biggest dairies, the 983.5 million kg per year Milcobel, has secured a capital stake in the Belgian cheese concern Antwerpse Kaas Centrale (AKC). It is expected that Milcobel will encourage synergies between its specialised cheese importing daughter firm Dupont and AKC (turnover €16 million), which specialises in maturing high quality cheeses and distributing them in France, Italy, Spain, the UK and the Benelux countries. AKC also distributes milk, butter, yogurt and dairy desserts and makes some of its own specialised cheeses. Cheese in stock is usually around 600 t, including 240 t of Gouda. Milcobel has eight production sites in Belgium, France and the Netherlands, with daughters Belgomilk producing butter, milk powders and cheeses, and Inza marketing fresh milk and its products alongside Ysco ice creams.
