If sales of a product line decrease, then expand. This approach paid dividends for Dairy Industries Jamaica, a company that found it could double production in existing premises with the help of flexible screw conveyors. When demand for the Horlicks malted milk drink that Dairy Industries Jamaica bottles and packs decreased, and Jamaican consumers began to turn instead to milk powder and milk substitutes, it became clear that Dairy Industries' milk powder department needed upgrading. The company responded by adding a new line of whole milk powder and a soy-based powder drink, EnerPlus, setting itself the challenge of running packages of three products simultaneously, along with Horlicks in bottles.
