When vendors fare poorly in tests, we tend to hear the same excuse: The products were misconfigured. Of course, since DATA- COMM Lab Tests generally require the vendor's own engineers to handle configuration duties, we don't give those charges much credence. Still, the charge raises an interesting question: How many problems can be traced to configuration errors, and how many spring from basic flaws in the product being tested?
