This issue includes two teaching briefs, one conceptual research article, and two empirical research articles. In "Using Contests to Provide Business Students Project-Based Learning in Humanitarian Logistics: PSAid Example," OEzpolat et al. describe a project in which students create Public Service Announcements to educate the public about the greater positive impact of monetary rather than material donations in response to humanitarian disasters. Students learn about the logistical challenges associated with disaster relief while simultaneously developing an awareness of the importance of social responsibility. An important motivational aspect of the exercise is that final submissions are entered into a national competition. "Teaching Lean Six Sigma Within a Supply Chain Context: The Airplane Supply Chain Simulation" by Ellis et al. highlights a simulation exercise in which students apply principles of lean six sigma to redesign a supply chain and improve performance. They are exposed to tools and concepts including value stream maps, root cause analysis, and relationships between system design, material flow, and performance. The exercise also enables students to develop an appreciation for how managing people, improvement processes, and communication impact improvement efforts.
