The above is based on my personal experience and corroborated by relevant military history books (The GOLDEN GALLEY - the story of the 2nd Punjab Regt 1761-1947 by Lieut Col Sir GEOFFREY BETHAM and GOLDEN ARROW- the story of the 7th Indian Division 1939-1945 by Brig M.R. ROBERTS). The aim is not to paint a picture of despair for our learned readers but some part of war experience is also a life of struggle, grief, pain and valour. Mercy abandons the arena of battle but war also has its chivalry and its pageantry. Particularly for those learned readers belonging to the armed forces, there are some lessons as well.
