摘要

When President Pervez Musharraf writes opinion articles in the Washington Post about Pakistan's ongoing political process, many Pakistani Americans take it as an affront. It's very rare that heads of states write explanatory op-ed pieces for foreign newspapers. Their argument is plain and simple. Is President of a sovereign state answerable to the people of another country? The answer is an obvious 'No'. Then why does this happen in the case of Pakistan? Commentators in Washington tend to agree that whenever American media becomes too critical of the Pakistani President, an op-ed piece from Musharraf's pen does the wonder - it spins many dissenting heads back to "America's only choice in Pakistan." Incidentally, President Musharraf's latest op-ed appeared days after scathing editorials of New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Washington Post which termed the Pakistan election results as a referendum against Musharraf.
