To say that Pakistan is facing a power crisis is probably an understatement. What is perhaps more worrying is that the crisis will likely get a lot worse before it gets any better. In the face of rising demand for power, the incapacity of the existing infrastructure, and the lack of any significant immediate relief in terms of an increase in current capacity, the writing on the wall is irrefutable. Power plundering sections of society that consider themselves above those lowly citizens that actually pay for their electricity, further aggravate the situation. Given Pakistan's power crunch and rising overall costs, a particular breed of power generation plants becomes a viable option - that of the Cogeneration power plant (Cogen for short). Cogeneration is an energy-efficient, and environment friendly method of producing electricity and heat simultaneously in one process, with one fuel. Fuels used in cogeneration include natural gas, fuel oil, propane, bio-mass, bio-waste, and renewable fuels such as wood or wood waste. More and more companies are finding cogeneration the best way to provide power and thermal energy for their on-site energy requirements due to the numerous advantages and benefits.
