摘要

We are living in very interesting times; rapidly changing times. We are a generation finding out the truth in saying that "History has a way of censoring contemporary values". There are many things turning upside down right in front of us with changing international circumstances, satellite communication and Internet revolution. The State as an institution is on the defensive, the market as an institution is on the offensive and non-profit sector is on the rise. It seems that with WTO in place, commercial and even physical borders are softening, if not evaporating, and geography is becoming history. We leave the impact of these developments to future historians because "History does not usually make real sense until long afterward". One spectacular development starting from 1990s is the rise in the role, scope, prestige, visibility and contribution of the 'civil society' in general and civil society organizations in particular. The rapid and visible expansion in the role of the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) is redefining the non-profit sector, the private sector, the public sector and redrawing their boundaries especially at the canvas of social challenges.
