The ruling party may have heaved a sigh of relief as the curtain draws on the Thirteenth SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) summit attended by all the seven leaders of South Asia. It was almost a nightmarish experience for the organisers - the Bangladesh government - as the twice postponed summit once again almost fell victim to a natural calamity and the mayhem that Delhi experienced when terrorism had taken toll of 59 lives and injured over two hundred in an attack in a busy crowded market frequented by the middle class, a few days prior to two of the major religious events of the sub-continent i.e. Eid and Diwali. Earlier to the Delhi bombing, Northern Pakistan and NWFP, mostly Azad Kashmir and Indian controlled Kashmir, was rocked by an earthquake resulting in almost a hundred thousand deaths and thousands more left to bear the cruelty of weather where mercury dips way below freezing point.
