Fire is a common enemy whose destructive power is indiscriminate. For those fighting it, there can be no 'world behind the wire', because they are up against a threat that does not distinguish between 'military' and 'civilian'. Best practice saves lives, in any part of the world. Acknowledging that fact, the MoD engages with industry and civilian firefighters to ensure that the latest equipment and techniques are shared and made available to counter the threat. Vehicle development is one area of that engagement. As part of the Warrior and CVR(T) capability improvement projects now under way, the Armoured Vehicles Programme (AVP) at DE&S is upgrading the fire survivability of both types at an estimated cost of over £8m.
