To make the change from being a civilian to becoming a fully trained serviceman or woman takes, on average, six months. Over the next few years the dress, language and allegiance to the unit develops into a way of life: friendships, trust and an understanding of reliability and personal competencies are acknowledged, and almost taken for granted.
