Despite the ongoing debate on the strategic direction of the UK's Carrier Enabled Power Projection capability in a cash-strapped future, and the questions that persist around the cost and technical viability of the F-35, the construction programme of the Queen Elizabeth (QE) class carriers goes on. Commodore Steve Brunton, Head of DE&S Capital Ships, is recently quoted as sounding a ringing endorsement of progress so far. "Build progress on Queen Elizabeth continues at such a pace that we are really starting to see the ship take shape now, and getting a first glimpse of the truly awe-inspiring vessel she will become," he told DE&S' Desider magazine in January.
