Realistic 3D visualisation is an increasingly important part of any system, including simulation, mission planning, rehearsal, evaluation or product development. As opposed to the ultra-realistic crisp graphics of modern animated movies or TV commercials, which may require seconds per frame to render, the critical aspect of this type of visualisation is real-time rendering. Since producing video or still photos is not enough in these types of solutions, this often means a requirement of drawing 30 or 60 frames per second. At the same time, a sufficient level of realism has to be achieved. Apart from the powerful hardware available today thanks to the game industry, it often takes experience and detailed knowledge of real-time 3D visualisation to fulfil this combination of requirements.
