Building Regulations are provided in England and Wales under powers in the Building Act 1984 to not only ensure the health and safety of people in and around buildings but to also ensure energy conservation and access and use of buildings for all.rnThere are 14 parts to the regulations: Structure; Fire Safety; Site Preparation and Resistance to Contaminants and Moisture; Toxic Substances; Resistance to the Passage of Sound; Ventilation; Hygiene; Drainage and Waste Disposal; Combustion Appliances and Fuel Storage; Protection from Falling, Collision and Systems Impact; Conservation of Fuel and Power; Access to and the use of Buildings; Glazing -Safety in Relation to Impact, Opening and Cleaning; and Electrical Safety.rnEach part is supported by an approved document that provides practical guidance on ways to comply with the minimum functional requirements of the regulations.
