Often, the remote locations of facilities across the defence estate mean that on-site leisure services form a focal point for morale. Get facilities right and hard-working personnel are kept happy; get them wrong and they can contribute to retention issues.rnCatering, Retail and 1 eisure (CRL) was authorised by the Service Personnel Board in 2005, after a five-year feasibility study and tri-service trials. Designed to provide flexible, multi-choice facilities that meet the demands of individual bases across the three services, CRL will see the end of the levied food charge and a new emphasis on inward investment in integrated, adaptable CRL services.rnTo gauge the progress of the scheme since its roll-out, DM] spoke to Flight Lieutenant Alex Machin from RAF Halton, one of the stations that has been responsible for introducing the new system into the Royal Air Force along with RAF Leuchars and RAF Henlow.
