The United States has a long-standing commitment to a mine impact-free world, beginning with President Clinton's call for the eventual elimination of landmines to the United Nations General Assembly in 1994 and continuing through the Bush and Obama Administrations, where we have been the world's most generous supporter of Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA), contributing over $1.3bn since 1993. From bilateral assistance to mine-affected nations in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America, to multilateral negotiations in various forums (including the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) and the Mine Action Support Group, where the US has been coordinating with European donor nations and the European Union), the Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement in the US Department of State's Bureau of Political-Military Affairs (PM/WRA) has played a leading role in the diplomacy and operations related to mine action.
