Hellenic Aerospace Industry Ltd was established in 1975 to provide a framework for the development of modern aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities in Greece. While the original concept emphasized the Greek government's desire to provide full autonomy and support for the Greek Air Force and local civil aviation, HAI has expanded to obtain both civil and military business from the international market. HAI, a corporation wholly owned by the Greek government, now has major support and overhaul contracts with international companies, such as Lockheed Martin, Airbus, and Dassault, as well as with the United Arab Emirates, the U.S. Air Force, and the Egyptian Air Force. These contracts include manufacturing and installing aviation components, maintaining and overhauling equipment, and training personnel.
