摘要

Croatia: Presidential elections were held in Croatia on December 28, 2014. Since no candidate received 50 percent of the vote in the first round, a run-off took place on January 11, 2015, between incumbent Pres. Ivo Josipovic and Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic. Ms Grabar-Kitarovic, 46 (Croatian Democratic Union: HDZ), on January 12, 2015, was declared winner of the Presidential elections, and became the first female president of Croatia, winning by the narrowest of margins. She secured 50.5 percent of the vote with 99 percent of ballots counted, while incumbent outgoing Pres. Josipovic was close behind with 49.5 percent. Mr Josipovic conceded defeat and congratulated Ms Grabar-Kitarovic. The outcome of the election signified that Croatia had returned politically to the right after the center-left coalition's failure to end six years of economic downturn. The election was also seen as a key indicator for the main parties ahead of parliamentary elections expected to be held towards the end of 2015. Voter turnout for the run-off was 58.9 percent, some 12 percent more than in the first round held on December 28, 2014, which was equally close.
