At some point, every programmer will have to deal with file input/output (I/O), and directory and file manipulation. The Microsoft .NET Framework's System.IO namespace defines the classes and types that you can use to perform file, directory, and streaming operations. In this article, I will discuss the classes in the System.IO namespace that deal with directories and files. I will also illustrate how you can monitor the activity within a directory using a special class from System.IO.
