摘要

Robots are recognised as being extremely flexible, with their working envelopes generally impressive in relation to their size. Nonetheless, the traditional concept of fixed installation (either floor, wall or ceiling mounted) places limitations on the maximum working envelope and, in certain applications, the ultimate capabilities of the robot. However, combine the flexibility of the robot with linear motion technology, in the form of tracks or gantry systems, and this creates a new range of possibilities for automation specialists, system builders and end-users.
