摘要

There are mainly economic, environmental and technological reasons that lead to the development of water-based penetrants. The process costs for a water-based penetrant are lower than those for products containing petroleum distillates. Furthermore, water-based penetrants offer the environmental advantages of a low VOC and of readily biodegradable surfactants. Their dilutions fulfil all the requirements of the German regulations of the local waste-water authorities. Part I of the report describes the development of a new generation of water-based penetrants. During the formulation of these products, requirements regarding environment, Health & Safety, corrosion protection and performance had to be considered.
