摘要

The School of Historical and Philosophical Studies at the University ofMelbourne invites applications for the Elizabeth and James TatoulisChair in Classics, at the rank of full Professor (Level E). Thiscontinuing appointment will be situated in the Discipline of Classicsand Archaeology, one of Australia's leading programs for the study ofthe ancient world, a position it has maintained since the establishmentof the University of Melbourne in 1854. The program providesstudents with a multi-disciplinary perspective on ancientGraeco-Roman, Aegean and Near Eastern cultures, from the earliestcivilisations down to Late Antiquity. Teaching and research isconducted in the classical languages (Greek and Latin – the programcurrently also teaches Egyptian, Akkadian, and Syriac Aramaic on asessional basis); Greek and Roman literature; Greek and Romanhistory; and the archaeology of the ancient Aegean, Mediterranean, Near East and Levant. Archaeological field projects are an integralpart of the program with active collaborative expeditions to Georgia(the Caucasus), Turkey, Israel, Greece and Italy.
