This article is based on a presentation given in September at the NAG conference in York. The Mining Institute is based in Newcastle upon Tyne with a collection of around 65,000 items covering mining of all types, worldwide, plus allied industries such as the railways, shipbuilding, and canals. There are books, journals, maps and archives plus a few objects stored across a large building in a variety of sequences.
