Miceinacolonyusedforpancreaticcancerresearchandmaintainedinabarrieranimalfacilitypresentedwithvulvarmasses.Acensusandexaminationofallcolonyanimalswasconductedon17February2006;line,gender,andmasslocationwererecorded;aslidecaliperwasusedtomeasurethewidth,length,andheightofeachmass;andthevolumeofeachmasswascalculated.ProgenyfemalemicefromcrossbreedingoftheB6.FVB-Tg(Ipf1-cre)1TuvandB6;129-Kras2tm4Tyj(KRASsupG12D/+/sup)strainspresentedwithexternalvulvarandperiauricularpapillomas.Thepapillomaswerepresentin41.2%ofallfemalecrossbredmiceandrangedinsizefrom8to36mmsupxmlns="http://pub2web.metastore.ingenta.coms/"3/sup.Ageofmiceandtumorsizewerenotcorrelated.ComparedwiththeB6.FVB-Tg(Ipf1-cre)1Tuvline,thecrossbredfemalemiceweremorelikelytohaveavulvarmass,withanoddsratioof29.3,95%confidenceinterval(1.5,563.9)andapositivepredictivevalueof42.9%.Diagnosticevaluation,includingelectronmicroscopy,lightmicroscopy,serology,andbacteriology,didnotrevealaviralorotherinfectiousetiology.Therefore,wespeculatethatinteractionbetweenthegeneticbackgroundofthemiceandtheintroducedKrasoncogenemayberesponsibleforthesepapillomas.
