A3-y-oldfemaleXenopuslaeviswasreportedforagraymassontheabdomen.Thefrogwasusedforeggcollectionandwasotherwiseexperimentallyna?ve.Onphysicalexam,thefrogwasbrightandactiveandhadafirm,gray,lobulatedmass(1.5cm×0.5cm×0.5cm)inthecutaneoustissueoftheleftlateralabdomen.Anexcisionalbiopsywasperformedunderanesthesia,andtheentiremasswasremovedandprocessedforhistopathology.Microscopically,thedermiswasgreatlyexpandedbyconnectivetissuewithamarkeddecreaseinthenumberofglands,andoccasionaldegenerativeglandswerepresent.WhenstainedwithMassontrichrome,theexcessiveconnectivetissuestainedblue,indicatingthatitwascomposedofcollagen.WithVerhoeff#8211;vanGiesonstaining,theconnectivetissuestainedbrightredwithanabsenceofblack-stainingmaterial,demonstratingthepresenceofcollagenandrulingoutelasticfibers.Inlightofthemorphologyofthemassandtheresultsofthespecialstains,themasswasdiagnosedasacollagenoma.Toourknowledge,thisreportisthefirstdescriptionofacollagenomainX.laevis.
