WedeterminedwhetherembryosderivedfromC.B-17/Icr-Prkdcsupscid/sup(SCID)miceinfectedwithmouseparvovirus(MPV)1bandmatedtoMPV-na?veB6C3F1micewouldtransmitvirustona?verecipientfemalemiceandrederivedprogeny.ViralDNAwasdetectedbyquantitativePCR(qPCR)inlymphoidtissues,gonad,sperm,andfecesofallMPV1b-inoculatedSCIDmice.ViralDNAwasdetectedin1of16aliquotsofembryosfrominfectedmaleSCIDmiceandin12of18aliquotsofembryosfrominfectedfemaleSCIDmice.AllrecipientfemalemiceimplantedwithembryosfrominfectedSCIDmalemiceandtheirprogenywerenegativebyserologyandqPCR.Incontrast,3of5recipientfemalemiceimplantedwithembryosfrominfectedSCIDfemalemiceand14of15progenymicefromtheserecipientswereseropositivebymultiplexfluorescentimmunoassay(MFI)forMPVcapsidantigen(rVP2).AllofthesemicewerenegativebyMFIforparvovirusnonstructuralproteinantigen(rNS1)andbyqPCR,withtheexceptionof1recipientfemalemousethatdisplayedweakrNS1seroreactivityandlowlevelsofMPVDNAinlymphoidtissues.SeroreactivitytorVP2declinedovertimeinallprogenymicefrominfectedSCIDfemalemiceuntilallwereseronegativeby20wkofage,consistentwithmaternalantibodytransfer.GiventhatthehighlevelsofMPVcontaminationdetectedinourexperimentallyinfectedSCIDmiceareunlikelyinnaturallyinfectedimmunocompetentmice,thesedataindicatethatembryotransferrederivationiseffectivefortheeradicationofMPVfrominfectedcolonies.
