Appropriateanimalmodelsforintradermalvaccinedeliveryarescarce.Giventhehighsimilarityoftheirskinanatomytothatofhumans,minipigsmaybeasuitablemodelfordermalvaccinedelivery.HerewedescribetheimmunizationofG?ttingenminipigsbyusingintradermalandintramusculardeliveryofhepatitisBsurfaceantigen(HBsAg).Intradermalvaccinedeliverybyneedleandsyringeandbyneedle-freejetinjectioninducedhumoralantiHBsAgresponses.Primingimmunizationbyusingthedisposablesyringejetinjector(DSJI)resultedinahigherantibodytiterthandidconventionalintradermalimmunizationandatitercomparabletothatafterintramuscularvaccinationwithHBsAgandAl(OH)sub3/subadjuvant.Thisstudyhighlightstheutilityoftheminipigmodelinvaccinestudiesassessingtheefficacyofconventionalandnovelmethodsofdermaldelivery.Moreover,weincludesuggestionsregardingworkingwithminipigsduringdermalvaccinedeliverystudies,therebyfosteringfutureworkinthisareaofvaccinology.
