Overseveralyears,0%to5%ofadolescentanimalsinacaptivecolonyofcommonmarmosets(Callithrixjacchus)showedseverelybendedarmsandlegsoverseveralyears.Theanimalsshowednopain,discomfort,oralteredbehaviorbutwereunabletostretchtheirdistallimbstotheirfullextent.Tocharacterizethelesionmorphologically,thebonesof4affectedmarmosetswerecomparedmacroscopicallyandradiographicallywiththoseof6unaffectedanimals.Thedeformitieswerecharacterizedbymid-todistaldiaphysealbendingandpronouncedshorteningoflongbones.Themorphologyanddensityofotherbonesincludingtheskullandvertebraewereunaffected.AlthoughvitaminDvalueswerelowinafifthaffectedmarmosetduring10to16moofage,lesionsassociatedwithricketswerenotobserved.Toourknowledge,thisreportisthefirsttodescribeamicromelicdysplasia-likesyndromecomprisingsevere,idiopathicbendingandshorteningoflongbonesinacolonyofmarmosets.
