IslamOnlineArabic,andparticularlythecounsellingserviceProblemsandSolutions,receivedharshcritiqueforbeingtoo‘open’oreven‘un–Islamic’intheirviewsanddealingswithsensitivetopics,notleastwithregardstosexuality.ThecounsellingserviceProblemsandSolutionscanbeconsideredtheemblemofIslamOnline’seffortstounitesecularandIslamicperspectivesandrelatetocontemporaryMuslims’reallivesandproblems.CounsellorsarguethatthereisatotallackofsexualeducationintheArabworld,aproblemwhichmustbefacedheadon.ProblemsandSolutionsquestionerscouldaskthemostintimateofquestionswithoutshameorembarrassment.ThisarticleprovidesanoverviewofthetypesofquestionsaboutsexualityandsexualrelationsthatquestionerssenttoProblemsandSolutionscounsellors.Moreover,theanalysisshedslighton:1)thevariousaspectsofcontemporaryArabmarriagesandtaboo–riddensexualitywhichcounsellorsbelievetobedetrimentaltomarriages,and2)avarietyofproposedlocalremedies,includingencouragingmentoaspiretothe‘newman’ideal.
