The process of training journalists and scientists for science writing has been examined in many publications. Often-cited problems include misrepresented information, inaccurate wording and difficulties in the report between scientists and journalists. Nonetheless, many studies conclude that joint efforts help to overcome these problems. In 2002 we conducted a Graduate Program in Scientific Journalism offered by the Unicamp Journalism Lab. Both difficulties and advantages of a cooperative undertaking combining professional scientists and journalists were readily ascertained. Here we report this semester-long experience of working with a group of twenty scientists and twenty journalists in conceiving and producing an electronic magazine on the elderly called IdadeAtiva (ActiveAge, http://techway.com.br/techway/revista_idoso/index.htm). We assert that knowledge as an adventure is best undertaken by cross-disciplinary teams.
