Ethno Botanical Study of Plants Used by People of Quetta as Cosmetics and Phytochemical Test of Some Selected Plants

The research work is confined to herbal cosmetics with special reference to people of Quetta city. Through questionnaires study was conducted in different areas of Quetta to collect information from residents about use of plants in cosmetics. Data of 62 plants were recorded, which are used as cosmetics. Part of plant, use of plant and method was also recorded from respondent informants. Women’s mostly use these herbal cosmetics for increasing their beauty and believe that these are easily market available, less expensive and have no adverse effect. Cosmetically most used 15 plants were selected for further research work. These plants were easily available in market and were costless except Saffron which was most expensive spice. Phytochemical screening was done by using qualitative methods. Name of selected plants are Aloe indica, Prunusamygdalus, Emblicaofficianalis, Cocosnucifera, Lawsoniainermis, Trigonellafoenum-gracum, Azadirachtaindica, Spindusmukorosi, Rosa indica, Santalum album, Aciaciaconcinna, Zingiberofficinale, Thymus eirodous, Curcuma longa and Crocus sativus. Presence of Phytochemicals such as Alkaloids,Flavonoids, Phenols, Steroids, Tannins, Saponins, Fixed oils and protein was checked by following qualitative tests.So, Antimicrobial activity of these plants can be checked against different pathogens. Medicinal properties of these plants can also be confirmed against different diseases in further research. Amount of phytochemicals (Secondary metabolites) can be checked in these plants.
