Research on dynamic silviculture applied to young beech stands in the Brasov county

The paper presents the results of the so-called dynamic silviculture applied to some young beech stands in the Teliu and Brasov Forest Districts. They have led to the following conclusions and recommendations: the stands are extremely dense so the opening of a network of extraction racks is compulsory for a better application of future silvicultural interventions. Also, high intensity and mixed (but mainly from below) cleaning-respacing can be applied to young beech stands. They are negative+positive selections and focus on reduction of stand density (for a quicker radial growth of remaining trees), as well as reduction of proportion of trees affected by beech canker. The potential final crop trees (tall, thick, with large crowns) can be selected at the beginning of pole stage based on two criteria (vigour+quality). They will be subsequently favoured by high intensity and mixed (but mainly from above) thinning.
