摘要

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) finds a wide range of applications from different spheres ofnatural applications. One of the major reasons for this diversity is due to the recent advances inminiaturized low-cost, low-powered devices and advances in recent networking techniques. This hasenabled the traditional wireless sensor networks to support multiple applications on the same sharedwireless sensor networks giving raise to heterogeneous wireless sensor networks. This has also paved wayfor open challenges and new research issues with respect to deployment techniques and quality ofservices. This paper addresses the advantages of heterogeneous WSN over traditional WSN, some of thecurrent applications based on heterogeneous WSN, technologies supporting it and some of the openresearch issues and challenges.
