To reap the benefits of liberalized telecom market, the implementation of number portability (NP) is utmostimportant. NP allows end user to retain their telephone number in case of change of geographical locationor service type or service provider. This paper describes the various number portability routing schemesnamely, All Call Query, Query on Release, Call Dropback and Onward routing. The comparative analysisbetween these routing schemes on various parameters is presented here. The issues pertaining to NP havealso been described.
