Electrochemical Investigation of Green Inhibitor Adsorption on Low-Carbon Steel in Produced Water

The electrochemical behavior of low carbon steel in produced water containing differentconcentrations of ascorbic acid (AA) has been studied by potentiodynamic polarization,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements and confirmed by surface examinationvia scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results of EIS and polarization data showed that thecorrosion rate of the steel decreases by increasing both the concentration of AA (0.01-0.1M) andtemperature under study (303-333K). The maximum efficiency was obtained (88%) in 0.1M AA at333K. Thermodynamic parameters indicate that the adsorption of AA on low carbon steel followedboth physical as well as chemical adsorption mechanisms.
